He criticized what he said was unfair coverage of the TaiPo fire by some Western media, adding that similar tragedies in the United States and the United Kingdom with severe casualty numbers have lacked the efficient response seen in the Hong Kong SAR.

“先审视自身的不足，再来发表批评。”兰桂坊集团主席盛智文7日接受《中国日报》采访时直言。他指出，西方媒体对大埔火灾的部分报道有失公允，同类灾难在美国、英国皆曾发生并导致严重伤亡，而香港特区政府很快便启动灾民安置和专项调查，“这种效率在西方国家是很难看到的”。
